Delay precision preparation process using the integrated optical waveguide delay line can achieve sub-picosecond magnitude,to meet increasing frequency radar work requirements. And with respect to inorganic materials, organic polymer optical integrated devices in recent years because of its unique advantages, has increasingly become a hot research topic.Polymer material in the production of the optical waveguide, having a good film, cut and workability strong, and compatibility with the advantages of high substrate. Meanwhile, experiments and progress in performance loss of light, the refractive index control, thermal stability showed that the polymer will be the base material of low-cost, high-performance optical integrated devices.In this thesis, the theory of planar waveguides and works arrayed waveguide gratings were studied in detail. And optical waveguide coupled-mode theory and the theory, according to AWG’s working principle and characteristics of each parameter. Designed the work in the communication wavelength of 1×8 array waveguide grating, and treated with Rsoft software simulation and optimization parameters. Then according to the production processes needed for preparation of a detailed inquiry and analysis, the complete process and parameters. Selected ZPU13 series of organic polymer as a core layer and the cladding material of the waveguide. Prepared 1.6nm wavelength spacing of 1×8 AWG and tested. The test results indicate that the device successfully achieved for the central wavelength of 1550nm wavelength division multiplexed input optical function, the average wavelength interval is 1.6nm, the insertion loss is less than -20dB.3dB bandwidth lnm, the design results in line with expectations.By further optimizing the design of monolithic integrated AWG, we produced a 2bitAWG-based optical delay line, and the wavelength interval is 1.6nm. The four output wavelengths have Ops,40ps,80ps, the amount of delay of 120ps. Demonstrate the feasibility of the design, the next step really integrated optical delay system research foundation.
