Wavelength-division Multiplexing (WDM) can greatly increase the capacity of optical fibercommunication systems and provide a variety of business. It has becomed the main direction of thedevelopment of optic fiber communication technology. Arrayed-waveguide grating (AWG) basedon Planar lightwave circuit (PLC) can be used as core components to construct a large capacityWDM system. All polymer materials have many advantages like low cost, the refractive index ofeasy adjustment, simple process and easy to relize integration. Therefore it is an important researchfield of optical communication technology in recent years. However, AWG with polymer materialsis not mature enough, especially in the state of polarization control still have much research space.We design a polarization compensated AWG based on polymer materiel. Firstly this paperintroduces the basic principle and function and development of AWG. Then it deduces and correctthe AWG transfer function distinctly, programmes AWG transfer function by using matlab,simulated the transmission properties of light field in value. Simulation of AWG added a half waveby using the transfer function distinctly, the results conform to theoretical values, thus can verify theability of the device. We simulate the transmission characteristics of polymer AWG by opticalsoftwere, analysis parameters impact of the performance of the device.Polarization dependence is an important performance index of AWG, the polarization sensitivedegree directly influence the performance of the device. This paper discussed the influence oftransmission characteristics of AWG by polarizationand and birefringence of polymer materials,analyzed the sources of waveguide birefringence, discussed the physical mechanisms causingdevice polarization correlation, explored to eliminate the polarization dependence of device. So asto realize the polarization transmission without differences. Design a kind of polymer polarizationcompensation AWG, the structure has good polarization insensitive function. Finally obtained theoutput line of Polymer AWG multiplexer and demultiplexer is good. It provides some ideas fordesign and application for high performance polymer AWG.
