Substrate Integrated Waveguide (SIW) is a kind of waveguide-like guided-wave structure, featuring low loss, high Q factor, high power capacity, ease of integration and compactness. Therefore, it could be efficiently used in microwave and millimeter-wave systems. With the research progress of SIW, the in-board and off-board connections between SIWs and other transmission lines are paid more and more attentions in recent years. In this thesis, the connections of SIW are studied and some interface standard proposals are developed. Firstly, based on the existing standards and norms of traditional rectangular waveguide, the SIW size recommendation for each band between 12.4-110 GHz is proposed. Solutions to the SIW interconnection problems are then presented. Wideband SIW-to-coaxial transitions are also studied. Thereafter, a broadband transition from SIW to rectangular waveguide is presented. To verify the SIW size recommendations and the proposed solutions to the SIW interconnection problems, both transitions are designed, fabricated and tested for low frequency (12.4-50GHz) and high frequency (50-110GHz) respectively. Measured results exhibit excellent performance for the proposed transitions.Furthermore, in order to test the 40-50GHz planar microwave circuits easily, an interface circuit working at 40-50GHz in Q band is investigated. A cavity connector with an arch structure is presented, fabricated and tested. Measured results demonstrate good performance of the designed interface circuit based on the proposed arch structure.
