Images, video and other multimedia information could be collected by video sensor networks which was a special form of wireless sensor network. As meeting the applications requirements of high precision and high reliability, a great deal of people’s attention was attracted by video sensor networks. Coverage control technology was the base of wireless sensor network monitoring application. Researching on coverage problems, the resource utilization could be improved;The lifetime of network could be extended and the perceived quality of network service could be enhanced. As a special monitoring mode in coverage control, the barrier coverage had a wide range of applications to intrusion detection, civilian control, warning field and other fields. In traditional wireless sensor network barrier coverage, a certain amount of research results had be accumulated. But video sensor networks had a series of characteristics such as node directional perception, the larger amount of collected data, the higher node data processing ability. The existing research results could not be applied directly to the video sensor network barrier coverage. It was urgent that video sensor network barrier coverage need to further analysis and research. Several aspects of research had be studied on video sensor network barrier coverage in the thesis, as follows:The problem of weak barrier coverage in video sensor network was studied. The problem of low energy utilization and short network lifetime were existed under the condition of random deployment in the band area. The energy-efficient weak barrier coverage construction(EWBCC) algorithm was proposed in the thesis. Firstly, a random deployment model of video sensor networks was optimally designed. A projection of the maximum effective coverage range of the sensor nodes to the region boundary was carried out, in order to convert into a one-dimensional linear coverage problem to analysis. Secondly, the sensors were dispatched during the constructing process of EWBCC algorithm considering the size of the mobile targets and the dump energy of the nodes. Finally, the simulation experiments were carried to verify the effectiveness of the algorithm. The goal of minimizing the number of nodes that they need for activation and prolonging the network lifetime was achieved as shown in experiments.The problem of weak barrier coverage in video sensor network was studied. When the sensor nodes were randomly deployed in the narrow band, there were a lot of overlapping sensing areas. It produced a large amount of redundant information and is not conducive to the effective use of resources. Firstly, sub-barriers were found based on the sensor perimeter and the nodes were adjusted on the basis of the introduced concept of overlapping sensing ratio in the thesis, for the purpose of reducing the overlapping coverage area; Secondly, for the re-formation of the barrier gaps, optimal deployment again was adopted to mend the barrier gaps. Finally, the mending strong barrier gaps(MSBG) algorithm was proposed. The success rate of barrier construction was achieved as shown in the simulation experiments.In summary, the weak barrier coverage and the strong barrier coverage of the video sensor networks were studied. And the effectiveness of the algorithm was verified by simulation experiments. The theoretical basis was provided for further research on the video sensor networks barrier coverage.
