With the development of cellular networks, more and more people surf the Internet by mobile terminal. The increase of the number of users and the speed of the network bring operators an important issue- data accounting. From the user point of view, it is not only needed that operators are not in the calculation of the flow deviation, but also hope that billing tra ffi c and e ff ective data they want are as close as possible. Through a lot of experiments, we identify the factors a ff ecting the user’s Internet tra ffi c, analyze and study the usage data tra ffi c from two di ff erent angles about operators and users.First,we introduced a simple set of experiments in this paper two issues- the base station side tra ffi c accounting loophole and redundant tra ffi c generated by the mobile terminal. The former main problem is a mismatch of the base station and mobile tra ffi c, while the latter is redundant tra ffi c and impact factors(beyond the user wants to transfer part of the flow) under the premise of accurate tra ffi c accounting. Then we construct experiments trying to identify the specific cause of two problems. In order to measure the state of the mobile phone network, this paper develop appropriate testing tools by API provided by Android operator system. In order to extract the kernel TCP state, we transplanted tcpprobe to the Android system kernel, and ultimately successfully to give the corresponding information.(1) In the experiment, we found that: First problem, the base billing errors occur in time and space. At the junction of the beginning and end of the month, China Mobile has calculated the tra ffi c begun from 11:26 last month to the next month.(2) In addition, The base station have the situation of excessive billing(overcharge), in weak signal exceeds 28.4% mobile terminal tra ffi c. For the second question, the experiment measured browse in weak signal 1.8MB size of HTC Home has produced a 7.2MB tra ffi c. We have a detailed analysis of the composition of redundant tra ffi c, and find the proportion of retransmission tra ffi c due to CP false retransmission and packet loss caused by bu ff er queues is very small, usually accounts for 1%2% e ff ective flow rate.In the extreme cases, it can only reach about 10 %. After careful analysis found that for each connection, most of the tra ffi c flow is actually redundant because the network quality declines disconnected, and before tra ffi c transmission needs to re-establish the connection transmission. This part of the flow rate can even reach more than 2 times of the e ff ective flow rate.In the end, we summarize the above questions, discuss its causes, to explore solutions. The results obtained in the article can help operators, third-party application developers to provide better services to reduce unnecessary tra ffi c waste, and improve the fairness of users. users can learn more about the daily flow of waste reason to reduce this part of tra ffi c. This paper plays a positive significance for the development of cellular networks in the future.
