The antenna is one of the most important components,which has been used widely in the radio, television, navigation, and wireless telephone systems. Thus Antennas are not only the important parts of the wireless communication system。 However, they are the key components which can be enhanced or limited the overall system performance. Based on the third-generation wireless communication technology global promoted and widely used, along with the 4G wireless communication technology’s maturing day after day, the coexistence of the 2G/3G/4G LTE multi-standard in the mobile communication networks has become an main current. Thus the working band modern of mobile terminals will also increase sharply, such as the mobile phones, especially for those smart phones. In order to satisfy the requirements of multi-mode and multi-band wireless communications, the small size mobile terminal antennas has been aroused more and more to cover the LTE/WWAN/WLAN band applications recently.This paper is mainly to research the miniaturization and multi-band antenna to cover the LTE/GSM/UMTS/WLAN/WiMAX operation band. The multiband mobile phone antenna can be realized by the branches coupled and small size can be archived by the two sides. The main research work includes several aspects as following:Firstly, an overview of the techniques of multi-band antennas for mobile phones application. Moreover a brief introduction and analysis to the several techniques for achieve multiband is given. The article introduces the mobile phone antennas and current research status briefly.Secondly, it introduces the basic theory of multi-band antenna and the main parameters, which can provide a theoretical basis for further research work.Thirdly, it provides three different compact and multi-band antennas mobile phones, the main methods as follows:The first is the two inverted C strip coupled to produce a lower band in order to cover the LTE operation band,the multi-band antenna with the a small size 50mm×15mm. It can cover the operation band 660–1050 MHz, 1600–3750 MHz and 5250–6500 MHz.The second is the T strip coupled to a shorting strip to produce a lower band in order to cover the LTE /GSM operation band. The multi-band antenna has a small size 40mm×18mm. It can cover the operation band 660–1120 MHz,1710–3850 MHz and 5150–6170 MHz.The third antenna is the C strip, inverted C strip coupled to S strip to produce a multi-band for the mobile phone. The multi-band antenna has a small size 47mm×15mm. It can cover the operation band 690–1020 MHz,1710–2730 MHz,3050–4050 MHz and 4970–6000 MHz, moreover the proposed antenna has omnidirectional radiation patterns.
