3D projection mapping is a method of projection technology using edge fusion algorithm to project images or videos on objects. By using one or more projectors, the technology can bring life to inanimate objects. It is widely used in display and art shows for its optical illusions and infective ultra-realistic effects.Currently there are four major kinds of 3D projection mapping. The first kind is to project dynamic visual content onto an object with depth, and be creative of its shape and edge. It could be executed with one projector, or several projectors can be used while blending their projection edges. The second is to project motion video onto a still and regular 3D geometry. Just as the first kind, it could be executed with one projector or more, however the edge does not need to blend or use edge fusion algorithm.The third kind is the combination of the first and the second, which is to project motion video onto an abnormity object. To successfully execute it, multiple projectors and edge fusion algorithm are needed.The fourth kind is a development of the third, using multiple projectors and edge fusion algorithm to project 360 all-round motion or live video onto a self-revolving abnormity object.This thesis studies the fourth kind of 3D projection mapping technology which is a relatively new idea in China and few researches on this kind have been done. The paper will discuss the nexus of virtual reality and the real space, so that a solution can be provided to ensure the projection fully covers the targeted object.To synchronize the two, I first built up a 3D model of the projection object. Then using cloud 3D scanning technology, I precisely recorded the coordinate. By using software like 3DMAX and MAYA, I later mapped out a virtual model of the object. To ensure the real time dynamics of virtual reality, I used rendering methods in this process. After finishing the model, I used sensing equipment to feedback and correct the virtual statistics so to make adjustments. Finally, the projection was designed according to the revolving object with 360 all-round motion or live video.This system can provide projection solution to any still or moving abnormity object thus creating a fantastic live event. It also lives on in the world of viral videos.
