In recent years, with the continuous development of the “Broadband China” strategy, the huge access network with complex and redendant wire resource urges the operators to depley a low-cost and high-efficient optical distribution network(ODN). The emergence of intelligent ODN eliminates the management confusion of the traditional ODN to a great extent.In this paper, the intelligent ODN solutions of main equipment manufacturers are researched firstly. An analysis about the characteristics and functions of the intelligent ODN systems is made, then the paper proposes a intelligent ODF system scheme, which includes the design and implementation of the first level HUB management unit and the second HUB detection unit, as well as the user interface of the intelligent ODN management terminal. The ODF system realizes lots of functions, such as the read and write function of the electrical label signing the fiber port, the acquirement of the electrical worksheets, the orientation of access fibers, the match and correction of the label information and the ODN database data. After comparision of variable serial interface technologies, the paper adopts RS485 and RS232 as the access mode of the intelligent ODF system. The second level HUB collects the data, then the first level HUB uploads the data to the intelligent ODF management system. Simulations of the ODN equipment have been done, where the first level HUB uses MSP430 and the second level HUB uses STC89C58, MODBUS is used as the data transport protocol. The results show the user interface of the intelligent ODN terminal, the accomplishment of intelligent ODF fiber port label electronization, and realization of the centralized management of the ODF port resource.
