After the Sino-Japanese War, the Kuomintang government launched civil war, that sent the nation already suffered a huge trauma plunging into unrest and turmoil.Most literary newspapers and magazines expressed their discontent to tumultuous society in this periodeven included the popular literature for "entertainment". "Detective" was one of the representatives.It was born in the national publishing boom and survived from the Kuomintang’s ban on newspapers and magazines."New Detective" and "Blue Book" were the detective publications published in the same year with "Detective".But their survival time and issues period number could not compare with "Detective "."Detective "reflected the social characteristics of China and people’s living status during the period from 1946 to 1949, which has been ignoring by people. It introduced excellent foreign detective novels, reducting narrative modes and writing paradigms of foreign detective novels by literal translation, that provided reference for the development of domestic detective novels.In addition, the popular science articles and the interesting articles echoed the call of "link between science and literature". It reflected the characteristics that" Detective " defferent from other times detective magazines:modernity and scientism.The first chapter combs the basic sutuation of "The Detective", analysis the overall style of the publications from publication environment and editor situation.The second chapter presents the socity of forty time half period through the interpretation of the original works, exposes tragic realistic from the fact detective works, transmits positive power from civilian detective and professional detective works, express the humanity from the anti detective and other detective works. The third chapter studys the reason、types and characteristics for translation of British and American detective novels, and the narrative mode、narrative view in literal translation.The fourth chapter analyzes the popular science and interesting works, which reflects a positive role in diffuse science and generate curiosity.The paper attempts to focus on interpretation of the original detective works in "Detective" as well as analyses and evaluates the translation works, the scientific and interesting articles, making every effort to present the complete appearance of this publication, revealing the social status, translation status and the scientific level of this period.
