The rapid development of modernization and the popularization of new media lead to changes of space and interpersonal association. City space, which acts as the initial detection of information technological revolution, becomes the most immediate revolution taker. What’s more, the modernity and the psychology it caries cause the varieties of interpersonal communication demand; thus an acute contradiction arises. The fixed association space in the city can not meet peoples’ demands of acquiring information while their requirements for establishing social cooperation have strengthened. Selecting space as the research object, this paper, in the perspective of mass communication theory, tries to discuss the influence that space has on interpersonal association by analyzing the emergence of this contradiction and how the development of city space and stretch of virtual space solve this contradiction in ways of document research, field investigation and case analysis.This paper holds that space plays an important role during the process of interpersonal communication. It can shape the relationshipthat flows, alternating communication mode and even form a new cultural phenomenon. To a certain extent, physical space limits the freedom of interpersonal communication while the virtual space rooted in network society make relationship more fluid. The extension of physical space and the fusion of physical and virtual space change the forms of human interaction, making interpersonal relations more complicated.
