Laser diode (LD) pumped solid-state "eye-safe" lasers have wide applications in many fields such as communication, material processing, remote sensing, military and iatrical due to advantages such as simplicity, high efficiency, long life-time, narrow pulse duration, high power and high stability. In addition, Laser diode (LD) pumped all-solid-state "eye-safe" lasers is rapidly developing and attract a lot of attention with the development of commercial LD and gain medium.In this thesis, by using the Nd:LuAG crystal as gain medium, V3+:YAG as saturable absorber, continuous wave and passively Q-switched lasers at 1.34μm were realized for the first time, and the laser characteristics were studied both in theory and experiment. The optical and electro-optical (EO) properties of LiNbO3 crystal were analyzed, the half-wave voltage ofLiNbO3EO modulator at 2μm region was calculated in theory, the EOM was made with LiNbO3 crystal and the extinction ratio of the EOM was also measured. By using the LiNbO3 EOM, LD pumpedsolid-state Q-switched Tm:LuAG and Tm,Ho:YAP 2μm laser has been realized, and the characteristics were studied. The main content of this paper includes:1、The structure and mechanism of V3+:YAGwere analyzed, by using the V3+:YAG as saturable absorber, LD pumped passively Q-switched Nd:LuAG 1.34μm laser has been realized for the first time. Characteristics of Q-switched laser, such as, output power, pulse duration, single pulse energy, average output power stability, pulse stability and so on were studied.The coupled rate equations was employed to simulate the characteristics of laser, the numerical results of the rate equations are consistent with the experimental results.2、The refractive index ellipsoid equation was employed to analyze the EO effect of LiNbO3. The switching time and operating mode of EOM were described in detailed, and the half-wave voltage of LiNbO3 EOM at 2μm region was calculated in theory. The LiNbO3 EOM was made and the extinction ratio of the EOM was also measured.3、By using the LiNbO3 EOM, LD pumped EO Q-switched Tm:LuAG and Tm,Ho:YAP lasers were realized for the first time. Characteristics of Q-switched laser, such as,output power, pulse duration, single pulse energy, peak power, output power stability, pulse stability and so on were studied.
