The ultra-wideband microstrip antenna technology applied to short distance wireless communication is studied. A general method to improve the matching performance of the antenna and three new ultra-wideband antennas are proposed. The main work and innovations are as follows:(1) A method to improve impedance matching by analyzing surface current is proposed. According to the surface current distribution of the antenna, the structure in appropriate position is modified to improve the matching performance. The features of this method are simple, intuitive and effective.(2) A quasi-Yagi antenna with gradient transition is proposed. Through analyzing the influence of the balun to the impedance matching of traditional quasi-Yagi antenna, the antenna is improved by using gradient transition. The improved quasi-Yagi antenna is of ultra-wideband feature.(3) A compact quasi-Yagi antenna with perturbation element is proposed. On the basis of the antenna surface current, a compact quasi-Yagi antenna is improved with a perturbation element. The improved antenna has wider bandwidth and smaller size.(4) A open-eye corrugated antipodal Vivaldi antenna with director is proposed. The open-eye and corrugated structure reduce terminal surface current of the antenna and the impedance matching of high frequencies is improved with director. The results show the antenna is of ultra-wide band and good directional stability.(5) HFSS automated modeling using Jscript scripting language is employed. In the modeling of the corrugated structure, scripting language is used to achieve automated modeling, greatly reducing the workload of complex structural modeling.The proposed method can effectively improve the antenna impedance matching, which can be used for improving multiple antennas. Three kinds of antennas with ultra-wide band feature is proposed, in which the latter two has compact feature and is suitable for application in UWB short distance wireless communication system.
