LTE as the representative of the next generation mobile communication system has been put into operation in the existing network. The coexistence of multiple standard networks has considerably increased the complexity of LTE network, and it increases the difficulty of service configuration and network maintenance. Self-organizing network(SON) can realize the functions including self-configuring, self-optimizing, self-healing, self-planning and other network functions. It can enhance the efficiency of network optimization and reduce the costs of network operating, which is the current hot spot of the industry.The SON technology and its application in LTE network will be studied in this paper, which is based on the project of Jiangsu Telecom.At first, this paper briefly introduces the summary and business trait of LTE network deployment. It also expounds the principle and main functions of SON, which focuses on the basic principles of ANR, MLB and MRO’s, meanwhile, the experiment and performance evaluation of these functions will be provided in dense urban areas, ordinary urban, suburban and rural areas and high-speed railway scenes. On the basis of theoretical analysis, this paper will finally give the application strategy of SON under different scenarios, combining with instance of Jiangsu telecom optimization.
