| Using the method of Information metrology,this study examined the data citation behavior of the papers from Core journals in Demography in China between 2012 and 2014.Articles from Chinese Journal of Population Science,Population Research,Population Journal,Population&Development and Population&Economics were selected. The data citations in these articles were counted and analyzed via content analysis.The behavior and the characteristics of data citation between different journals were studied and compared.Then, using data evaluation indices which contain data citation and citation per data to study the quantitative evaluation of data and the institutions from which the data could be published and stored.Overall,data citations in Demographic were common,and many sample articles cited in the reference list followed with standard citations.But the percentage of un-normative citation can not be ignored. Second,All kinds of yearbooks and tabulations on the population census are highly cited in the form of many non-standard citations.However,data citations from journal papers which were published were more standard.Third,government departments were the major source of data for Demography studies,especially the National Bureau of Statistics of the People’s Republic of China.What’s more,correlation analysis by SPSS represented that there was no significant correlation with the data citation and the article citation in CSSCI in the top data citing papers,which indicated that those authors who highly cited the papers did not very attache great importance to the data citation,which also implied the lack of effective use of mass data.Developing a data citation format can encourage researchers to properly cite data.Doing so promotes a value proposition for data sharing and secondary research broadly,fully exploiting the data value,thereby accelerating the pace of scientific research. |
