Digital image measurement technology is a new measurement technology based on modern computer software technology. It has important applications in machine vision, image detection, image match and pattern recognition. Based on the analysis of the actual measurement requirements and the core of digital image measurement technology, this paper had puts forward a scheme of embedded handheld fracture width measurement system. The system has the characteristics of simple, efficient, precise, small volume and low power consumption etc. and can be used in wide industrial condition which has measurement needs. It may have some application value in the market.Based on the Samsung S3C2440 processor and embedded Linux operating system, this paper studies and designs the overall scheme of the system according to the general process of image acquisition and processing. In order to save the development time and cost, the entire system based on FL2440 Development Board which as a hardware development platform, and equipped with ZC301P camera as the image acquisition equipment. Based on the requirements of the actually image acquisition, I transplanted a stable performance Linux kernel version2.6.32.2 for the development Board, and transplanted camera driver based on V4L standard for the ZC301P.Through research and analysis of the digital image processing method, the suitable Image Preprocessing Algorithm, Filtering Algorithm and Edge Detection Algorithm were adopted. Based on the research of Scale Method and Ranging method and Axis Approximation Method, more practical and convenient Point Laser Calibration Method and Line Laser Calibration Method were proposed. All research in this paper established the theoretical foundation and the software and hardware platform for the Handheld Fracture Width Measurement System development in the future.
