Industry concerning on the 60 GHz band has become more and more evident with the increasingly hot research in today’s high frequency. All kinds of standards and applications based on 60 GHz band are launched all over the world which has driven the concern of this band at home. This project is a branch of the State 863 Program "Research on the system technology of the millimeter wave and terahertz and high-speed baseband signal processing technologiesy". This paper studys the propagation characteristics of 60 GHz band in atmosphere and realizes large-scale simulation and comparison of 60 GHz and 3.5GHz band in outdoor IRT models by winProp. And the 5m channel and 100 m channel are measured by cross-polarized antenna. The main research work are as follows:First this paper describes the background of 60 GHz work, research status of 60 GHz channel and the concept of radio channel. Many kinds of attenuation characteristics of 60 GHz propagation such as free path, penetrating, and rain attenuation are summarized. Then we compare three different kinds of radio channel modeling methods.Secondly this paper simulates and analyzes the propagation characteristics of the atmosphere with the increasing of altitude on the 60 GHz band(mainly on 50-70 GHz band). Millimeter wave absorption spectrum of oxygen and water vapor are analyzed. We simulate propagation characteristics in six different areas which contain bottom altitude(0-20km) and middle altitude(20-50km). That pressure broadening can affect the absorption spectrum is proposed, and the effects of Zeeman splitting on the width of every spectral line are analyzed. Finally zenith attenuation and water vapor attenuation are simulated between 50 GHz and 70 GHz.Finally chapter of this paper simulate 100 m LOS channel at the street of IRT outdoor model, and compares the result with 3.5GHz from the perspective of large-scale. And then the field measurements of 60 GHz channel under cross-polarized antenna are made. We measure 5m channel and 100 m channel on 59-64 GHz band for large-scale channel characteristics and analyze the measured data and make some simulation. Finally differences of 5m channel and 100 channel are compared and studied.
