With the development of information technology, the mobile phone market in China has seen a great development recently. According to the statistics in 2015, domestic mobile phone shipments have been far more than foreign brands. Although shipments of domestic mobile phones increase rapidly, it’s difficult to contend with foreign brands in terms of benefits, especially in such a situation where mobile phones are updating fast. Many domestic enterprises shorten the design cycle in order to competing with lower prices, which is not good for the further development of the enterprise. Only taking products as the core and satisfying the various requirements of users can an enterprise build a good corporate image and brand.Materials, as the important component of mobile phone design, play a significant role in the whole design process of mobile phone. The appliance of new materials and new crafts can lead to breakthrough and diversification in mobile phone design. Designers could explore and research deeply into the aspect of material to find out the materials corresponding to the image cognition of consumers. Design features of exterior differentiation should also be explored so as to search the brand identity in this homogenization trend today.The main content of this paper is doing research on Hisense mobile phone design, Which is uses material image method to guide the design and practice of Hisense mobile phone. The first part of this thesis introduces the Hisense mobile phone design process based on material image method. Combining the related design theories of material image, the related factors that affect the user’s cognition of material image are analyzed in details from the tactile perception, visual perception and psychological cognitive level, and new material and new crafts suitable for mobile phone design are explored to bring users new kinds of tactile and visual experience. The second part is the construction of Hisense mobile phone material image. As for the design practice of Hisense mobile phone project.First, the design trend of main stream brands on the market are investigated through competitive analysis. Second, through questionnaire survey as well as material tactile image test and visual image test to study further into which type of material style or exterior style users prefer. Third, Based on the Hisense mobile phone’s flagship A1 design project, carried out the product design practice. It uses the method of material image to guide the ideation and development of design product. At present this mobile phone has been successfully pushed into the market.
