With the rapid development of the information technology, the optical network technology is experiencing dramatic change. A growing number of access network technologies can show us many options to solve the “last mile” access problem. And in these solutions, the Wavelength Division Multiplexing-Passive Optical Network(WDM-PON)as one of the best solution to solve the problem of broadband access has gradually become a research focus in the related field. With the deepening of the research on WDM- PON network, how to reduce the energy consumption of WDNPON system flexibly and effectively, and improve the Quality of Service(QoS), has become a topic of concern in access network field.In order to solve the problem of the energy consumption and the quality of service in WDM-PON system, more and more researchers begin to pay close attention to the application of Software Defined Networks(SDN). OpenFlow is one way to achieve SDN. It is a new kind of network test technology in order to support the development of the network innovation in recent years. It separates the control plane and forwarding plane, so it is of extremely flexible operability. Based on this, in this paper, we introduced the SDN technology in the framework of the WDM-PON system, used OpenFlow technology to realize the global control of controller for the WDM-PON network. Combining with the sleep technology, it timely controled the sleep of OLT and ONU. Based on this, we improved the traditional timeslot bandwidth allocation algorithm to make the network to meet higher QoS support ability. The main work is divided into the following sections:(1) First, we introduced the WDM-PON network, and analyzed the technology of SDN. We introduced the existing energy saving technology and QoS research in the Passive Optical Network(PON) and deeply investigated the research background, the research significance and the research status at home and abroad, discussed the necessity of the research on energy saving technology and the QoS schemes in WDN-PON.(2) We introduced the SDN technology into WDM-PON to separate the control plane and data forwarding plane and realized the hardware programmable and the centralized control of the entire PON network through the API interface. Based on this,we studied how to implement agile QoS control mechanism and the energy saving strategy.(3) We combined the OpenFlow technology with the sleep energy-saving mechanism in the WDM-PON to simplify the forwarding plane communication process,improve the communication efficiency of OLT and ONU,achieve flexible control of the related modules. On the basis of this, we put forward an effective ONU, OLT dormancy control mechanism to increase the sleep time to further reduce the energy consumption in the WDM-PON.(4) We deployed the QoS modules in the OpenFlow control plane and improved the original Simultaneous and Interleaved Polling with Adaptive Cycle Time(SIPACT)algorithm. According to the packets in forwarding plane, controller dynamically issues the QoS strategy, on the basis of this to implement the QoS guarantee of different business, guarantee the fairness between the ONUs. Finally,the method is validated by the simulation.
