Polyhedral spline is a generalization of B spline, which has very good proper-ties, such as local support, smoothness, flexibility and so on. The surface design method of regular grid data can not meet the needs of the complexity of the object, the surface design method of irregular grid data represented by subdivision method can not meet the requirement of smoothness. In this paper, a method of surface design is proposed by using polyhedron spline based on arbitrary grid data, which satisfies the high re-quirements of practicality and smoothness, and a simple and efficient application of the method in the triangular mesh data is analyzed. The point cloud grid data acquired by the 3D scanner and other 3D data acquisition instruments have a large amount of 3D coordinate information, which needs to pay a large time and space cost to design surface directly. In order to improve the computational efficiency, we propose a feature point extraction method based on point normal vector, and design spline surface for feature points. In addition, we discuss a mesh data reduction method based on edge collapse. Then we take the standard head data, the dachshund data and the mushroom data as examples, make a comparison between the spline surfaces of the original cloud triangular mesh data, the spline surfaces generated by feature points and edge folding surfaces. Finally, Texture mapping on the generated surface.
