Power Line Communication(PLC) technology which exploits the existing power line as data transmission medium has been applied in various fields. It has become one of the most competitive candidates to solve the “the last 300 meters” access of indoor broadband networks. No-need-to-rewiring, low cost and large coverage are the great advantages of PLC. Homeplug Green PHY specification is a simplified version based on Homeplug AV, proposed by the Homeplug Power line Alliance. It aims to adapt the most existing low-rate terminals in the PLC market, and is meanwhile compatible with the Homeplug AV specification and the IEEE P1901 specification in the coming days. The research on this specification will be helpful to the designing of the native PLC standard.The channel is crucial to communications. The power lines are originally designed to support the energy transmission but not data exchange. The high rate data transmission on power line undergoes multi-path effect and severe noise interference,it makes the PLC channel a very harsh environment for broadband communication. It is thus necessary to study on the characteristics of PLC channel, and ease the problems accordingly. Precise synchronization is pre-required to receivers. The OFDM transmission exploit by Homeplug Green PHY specification makes it very sensitive to synchronization error. Many algorithms in literature can not perform well with the special preamble waveform. In this thesis, the characteristics of the preambles in Homeplug Green PHY are well studied, a novel preamble-assisted algorithm is then proposed and realized.This paper first introduces the background and significance of the research of Power Line communication. Then the research status and the content and the structure of this paper are talked. In the second chapter, this paper introduces the OFDM and PHY layer of Homeplug Green PHY specification. In the third chapter the multi-path effect and severe noise interference on power line are studied. Based on theory and measurement,we establish a multi-path and noise model. Homeplug Green PHY receiver are designed in the fourth chapter. It gives the structure and function of each module in this receiver. A novel preamble-assisted algorithm of synchronization is proposed and introduced detailed. And it also gives brief introduce of channel coding and ROBO interweave of Homeplug Green PHY specification. The simulation of synchronization and receiver are presented in chapter 5.That research on Power Line channel, synchronization and receiver algorithm of Homeplug Green PHY specification in this paper proves feasibility of signal transmission on power line. It contributes to the development of power line communication in our contry.
