With the raise of "Industry 4.0", China’s industrial robot industry has sprung up vigorously. As technical barriers are gradually disappearing, the key techniques, such as servo system, speed reducer and motor, can be purchased now. Most industrial robot enterprises in our country finish structure development and assembly work, which makes industrial robot products’homogeneity is very serious. As a technology oriented industry, few industrial robot enterprises introduce industrial design to assist in product development. Product identity design is one effective mean of conveying the enterprise idea and form differentiating identity, and has become the enterprises’important strategic resource of participating in market competition.Based on Time industrial robot product identity designing practice, the article combined theories on product identity and industrial robot industry characteristics, raised process of product identity establishment, and finished Time industrial robot product identity establishment on concept and visual identity. With the help of questionnaire and semantic difference method, the article studied the concept of enterprise culture and product design style, and obtained the concept positioning which followed the market trend and had its own characteristics. The article analyzed shape, color, material, surface decoration and established visual identity under the guidance of concept identity, analyzed shape elements, modeling characteristics and modeling genes with the aid of analytic hierarchy process, the characteristic line extraction and DFA, analyzed color identity from color, hue, color collocation method, the color image, analyzed surface texture, logo and the position of the nameplate of the material and surface decoration.At last, a product design practice of Time TIR80 was carried out under product identity framework, extracted characteristics genes, and then in another product design practice of the same series, based on the difference of two products made inheritance and innovation of the characteristic genes.
