As the important research direction of the visual plant, the study on visualization of the plant leaf aging process combines the computer graphics technology and the plant physiological theory to visualize the plant leaf aging process. Because of the complex physiology structure and life process, the plant leaf aging process becomes very different to quantitatively describe and realistically simulate. Therefore, how to develop a plant leaf aging visualization system with physiological and physical mechanisms is already a challenging problem.With studies and analysis of the visual plant development and the computer graphics technology, this paper adopted the plant leaf images to study the visualization technology of the plant leaf aging process, mainly including three contents as follows:1) The collected plant leaf images were made intrinsic images decomposition to get the reflectance and shading intrinsic images of the plant leaf. And the features of reflectance and shading intrinsic images were meticulously analyzed.2) An aging appearance simulation structure of the plant leaf based on intrinsic images was proposed. The plant leaf reflectance and shading images were separately applied to the appearance simulation of leaf color and illumination.3) An image-based framework for simulating the wrinkles of withered plant leaves was proposed. And the plant leaf aging morphology simulation based on the plant shading intrinsic image was done by using this framework.This paper adopts the scindapsus aureus to demonstrate aging simulations of the plant leaf appearance color changes, appearance illumination changes, and morphology changes. The results show that the proposed aging visualization structure visualizes the appearance and morphology changes during the aging process of the scindapsus aureus, and realizes the simulation of different aging scindapsus aureuses with some parameters. Therefore, the proposed plant leaf aging visualization structure makes it clear to discover the rules in the scientific plant leaf aging data, and provide a better way to understand the plant growth process.
