| News, as a kind of knowledge, is an important source for the public to contact and understand science. And it’s also the basic of building scientific consensus. For this reason, the dissertation takes the paper as research object to study the knowledge pattern of science news and its production logic. And it follows the research design of Gans’Deciding What’s News with methods of content analysis, case study and interview.The dissertation has 6 chapters. Chapter one firstly introduces the research origins and both domestic and foreign definition of science news. Chapter two sorts out the development of sociology of knowledge and news production theory to explain "science news is a kind of knowledge production". Chapter three is the review of science news and science journalists including environmental and biomedical science news. And the difference between the domestic and foreign study of science news is summarized in the last part of this chapter. Chapter four is about research method. The dissertation studies science news in content analysis, case study and interview. In the fifth chapter, firstly, the content analysis shows that the science news in the paper is in favor of certain science issues and prefers risk reporting. Besides, the authoritative information resources are mainly dominant. Secondly, in the case study of Tianjin explosion, science knowledge plays explanation, evaluation and solution role. And the information resources are also authoritative ones. Thirdly, the interview with journalists and editor consists of science news writing, topic selection, information sources and risk control. It finds that fact and professional reporting are key to science news for the interviewees. In the last chapter of conclusion, the findings of content analysis and case study are associated with interview to discuss the situation and production of science news. And the suggestions for science news are given on this basis.The innovation of this dissertation is mainly manifested in three aspects. Firstly, it adopts the broad definition of science news to explore the complete picture of science in news, which also helps developing the domestic cognition of science news. Secondly, it takes the new media the paper as research object. It studies not only the connection between science and other fields, but the new pattern of science news in new media environment. Thirdly, the research design and methods are suitable ways to understand the deep and complete appearance of science news. |
