The department where the author is working needs often portable devices to handle various businesses. Currently, they mainly utilize universal and commercial tablets and laptops. However, these two devices have certain deficiencies, which are not so suitable for the actual requirements of the work unit. Along with the technological maturity of design and development of tablets, customizable tablets have been constantly developed for adapting themselves to all walks of life. On the one hand, the tablets through elaborate design and customization have inherited the strengths of universal tablets such as small size, low power dissipation and light weight etc. On the other hand, customization can consolidate the performance in some aspects of software and hardware as per the need of application scenarios.In this paper, the design has realized one dedicated tablet suitable for the actual requirement of our department. This tablet is required to be equipped with higher safety performance, primarily and only utilized to visit the given website for carrying out corresponding business operation. The shell of the tablet is required to provide multiple keys so as to realize the one-key switch function of the software and hardware, including specifically system reset switch, 3G network switch, WIFI network switch and multiple given website switches. In order to guarantee the safety of the device in a complicated network environment, the tablet needs to conduct setup concerning the websites that can be visited by the system and only websites in white list can be visited. The dedicated tablet should be equipped with large-volume battery and enhanced with cruising ability and capability of handling various complicated environments. The tablet should conform to the three-proofing standards of IP67 of the computers. The shell should be hard enough and processed with necessary water-proofing, dust-proofing as well as quake-proofing.Next, design has been conducted specific to the above-mentioned required dedicated tablet. In the aspect of hardware, major components of 4412 core-board, 4412 baseboard and9.7 foot 1024*768 capacitance touch LCD based on quad-core processor of Samgsung Cortex-A9 framework developed by branded manufacturers; standard keyboard module of KB101 USB has been utilized for inputting specific key information into the tablet; and 3G antenna has been connected to the baseboard for strengthening the 3G signal receiving function. In the aspect of software, Android system has been selected as the operating system of the tablet.In reality, core-board is directly embedded in the baseboard first and then baseboard and capacitance screen are connected via flexible flat cable. USB keyboard module is connectedvia flat cable and baseboard and the keys on the shell are connected via flat cable and two rows of copper needle matrix of USB keyboard module. The difference of the location of copper needle matrix connected by keys has decided the difference of key code. We can recognize different keys as per different key code operating system. Aviation aluminum materials have been selected to make the shell of the tablet. In order to achieve the water-proofing effect, water-proofing gasket has been added between the backboard and shell of the tablet so as to achieve the water-proofing and dust-proofing goal via pressure seal.Fastboot has been utilized to write the customized operating system in the tablet. Next, three Apps have been installed into Android system to realized the function of key control, website white list establishment and key function redefinition. These Apps have realized one-key switch network, one-key internet surfing and limitation to visit other websites.After realizing the design of the tablet, tests have been conducted on every aspect of the hardware and software. The test results show that this tablet has met the requirement from the perspective of either function or performance. Moreover, it has a comparatively strong practicability. Currently, this dedicated tablet only supports 3G signal. The further objective of the paper is to design a dedicated tablet that will support 4G signal.
