| The invention of electronic dictionary can be dated back to the late 1940 s when Americans put forward the notion of machine translation research. It was not until the 1950 s and 1960 s that wide attention was paid attention to it. Yet, this research didn’t get obvious development at that time. Since the 1980 s, with the application and popularity of PC, people have started to focus on electronic dictionary for its large amount of information and high speed in looking up materials. It is widely used and a new interdisciplinary subject--- electronic lexicography has cone into being in the world.Meanwhile, since 1990 s with great progress of science and technology, mobile communication devices have become necessary tools in people’s life, work and study. The upgrading of software and hardware provide people with not only many superior communicative functions but also additional application combining entertainment, work and study as a whole. With huge number of mobile phone users in China and emergence of smartphones in this century, major software developers focus on a variety of application programs in their competition.Based on the above background, the thesis is about the development of electronic dictionary. Its advantage lies in the fact that people can look up information anytime and anywhere for electronic dictionary includes many dictionaries as long as you carry it, which benefits people’s study and work.Currently, the major mobile phone operating systems in the market are Windows CE, Palm, Linux, Symbian and nucleus while these operating systems are applied to different chips. Yet, due to its low cost, MTK platform has caught the attention of a great many manufactures. At one time, MTK was neglected by people, but now with the social progress, people tend to pursue more personalized traits and because of fierce competition, MTK platform begins to get attention. Thus, the development of electronic dictionary based on MTK platform has come into being with its application.The thesis adopts C++ programme language as the development language and analyzes the logical calculus in electronic dictionary with the aid of data structure algorithm, and then presents it in routine and applies it in Nucleus operating system. The Nucleus operating system provides a great deal of programming interface, which guarantees the portability for developers. Also the thesis studies the structure and programming interface of Nucleus operating system, including underlying GDI, GUI and file operation, as well as the ADS embedded compiler of ARM company.This dictionary is rich in content and has authority in data, including The Contempory English-Chinese Dictionary, The Contempory Chinese-English Dictionary, Chinese Dictionary of Idioms, Chinese Dictionary, English Dictionary of Names, and English Geographical Dictionary.
