As an emerging wireless communication technology, Ultra-wideband (UWB) has drawn more and more attention because of its high transmission rate, low power consumption, exceptional multipath immunity, good confidentiality and high locating accuracy.UWB technology has been widely applied in the field of wireless sensor, radar and positioning, currently, at home and abroad are active in research and development of UWB products, makes it a research hotspot in the field of wireless, and is seen as one of the key to next-generation wireless network communication technology.With the improvement of people’s demand for indoor wireless positioning, UWB provides an effective solution to achieve high-precision indoor wireless location for its excellent penetration ability and high locating accuracy etc. The high positioning accuracy is based on its strong temporal resolution. After analyzing the common wireless location methods, the thesis chooses time-based positioning method which is more appropriate to UWB. In the time-based positioning scheme, TOA method is difficult to achieve in practice due to the need for strict time synchronization, so the thesis chooses TDOA approach, and makes in-depth study for TDOA positioning method.Firstly, the thesis analyzes the classical TDOA location algorithm, that is, Fang algorithm, Chan algorithm and Taylor algorithm, and describes the principles and characteristics of these algorithms in detail. On the basis of traditional algorithm, the thesis verifies a co-location algorithm based on Chan and Taylor algorithm. And the thesis also makes simulations and experiments to research the number of base stations and ranging error’s affection to the positioning performance of each algorithm in the positioning process. The experiment indicates that the co-location algorithm not only solves the problem of Taylor algorithm’s difficulty in selecting the initial position but also makes up the defects of Chan algorithm poor adaptability, is a good location algorithm. Secondly, the thesis makes thorough research to the application of genetic algorithm in the field of wireless location, the thesis introduces the basic genetic algorithm, and after analyzing the shortcomings of genetic algorithm, the thesis proposes a new location algorithm which combines improved genetic algorithm and Chan algorithm, establishes the mathematical model to the positioning problem, describes the detail steps of the algorithm. Finally, the thesis makes stimulations and analysis to the algorithm, the experiment shows that compared to traditional positioning algorithm, and the algorithm the thesis proposed can effectively improve positioning accuracy in the case of large range error. Considering the real-time requirements in positioning problem, the thesis researches the current parallel models of genetic algorithm, provides a better idea for the research of wireless positioning.Finally, the thesis introduces a positioning system based on PLUS System, implements a location software system use positioning algorithm, describes the realization of the software modules, in order to solve the real-time problem of genetic algorithm, the thesis uses parallel genetic algorithm based on MPI, and analyzes the positioning result. The result shows that the software realizes the needs of wireless location, and achieves ideal positioning effect.
