Today, with the rapid development of 4G network, personal handheld terminal is becoming more popular and the performance of the terminal is becoming more powerful. People have a more and more dependence upon network in daily life, and the Internet has penetrated into every aspect of ours life. It is obvious that the quality of the wireless local area network(WLAN) has an important influence on people’s daily life. The traditional transmission in low-rate data cannot meet the needs of users who do not want to be hindered by traditional wired communication in space and time. Under this premise, WLAN technology has begun to be taken seriously. WLAN can share data pressure with the existing networks and meet the requirements of data transmission in some special places. The three major operators in China,(Mobile, Telecom, Unicom) pay great attention to the development and application of WLAN Technology. They are also working actively to carry out their WLAN coverage at home. Currently, there are two problems that should be solved about WLAN: for the WLAN which will be built, the planning and construction of WLAN AP should be correct and reasonable; for already completed WLAN, we should improve network performance and increase users’ perceptions based on uses’ feedback. In order to develop the quality of WLAN so that users can be more satisfied with the service, we need to gradually monitor and manage the daily operation of WLAN intelligently. Then we should carry out detailed analysis, summary and necessary optimization to improve people’s perception of the wireless networks. In this paper, we first study the WLAN operating frequency and frequency planning, and reduce the interference between the working channels by analyzing the case of multiple channels; next, the coverage of WLAN in universities is studied. According to the different sights, we make the planning of the coverage and capacity. In addition, by analyzing the common wireless access point, we conclude that combined architecture based on "thin" AP and AC meet the requirements of WLAN in universities; finally it studies the covering mode of WLAN network construction in universities of mobile company. We take a University WLAN network optimization case as an example and discuss the specific details of the WLAN optimization. By testing the WLAN of two spaces, we get the expected result of WLAN optimization, improve the user’s perception and reduce the amount of user daily complaints. This paper sums up this experience to get some reasonable means which can improve network’s performance and users’ perception and puts these means into practice. It can provide some experience and reference for the network planning, engineering construction, post maintenance and optimization of WLAN in the future.
