Tactile display is an advanced technology in human-computer interaction. It can provide people more real immersion and can be widely used in education, business exhibition, medical treatment and other fields. Rich and realistic tactile properties of objects displayed on the mobile terminal could be felt when bare fingers touch the screen, which is the ideal target for digital mobile terminals. However, most tactile display devices could not realize subtle sense and large areas tactile interaction with the touch screen. Electrostatic force tactile display is the main way to realize the miniaturization of tactile display devices. Integration and application problems for electrostatic force tactile display on the mobile terminal can be solved in this article. The new mobile terminal prototype with electrostatic force tactile display function is developed which provides a reference for product research and development of digital mobile terminals with tactile display function.The main contents of this paper are as follows:(1) Study on the basic principle of electrostatic force tactile display and establish the mechanical model in the process of electrostatic force tactile display. Analysis tactile physiology characteristics of finger skin. Design the overall architecture of the electrostatic force tactile display mobile terminal according to the realizing mechanism of electrostatic force tactile display.(2) Design the hardware architecture for electrostatic force tactile display mobile terminal based on the Android platform. Design the ARM core unit and integrate tactile interaction unit, position device, signal generator, camera unit and supply circuit to build a complete electrostatic force tactile display mobile terminal.(3) Design the software platform for electrostatic force tactile display mobile terminal based on the Android platform. Build the software development environment for Android. Develop the drive programs of positioning device, signal generator and camera unit under the Android system. Design the software application development framework of the Android system to provide development platform for realizing electrostatic force tactile display function on the mobile terminal.(4) As to apply tactile display technology to the mobile terminal, explore the tactile characteristics of electrostatic force tactile excitation signal parameters through experiments. Study on tactile feature extraction algorithms for images and videos, establish the transformation model mapping between the visual and tactile information, develop tactile perception applications for static images, dynamic videos and touch operation on the electrostatic force tactile display mobile terminal.In order to verify the effectiveness of electrostatic force tactile display mobile terminal function, a series of tactile perception experiments for images, videos and touch operation are carried out. The experimental results show that subjects could sense basic contour and shape of graphics, dynamic information of video files and real-time acquisition video. In addition, it makes use of tactile feedback interface for touch operation on the tactile display mobile terminal.The main contribution and innovation of this article includes:(1) Develop a complete electrostatic force tactile mobile terminal prototype based on Android platform, which provides a reference for product research and development of digital mobile terminals with tactile display function.(2) Develop tactile perception application examples for static images, dynamic videos and touch operation on the electrostatic force tactile display mobile terminal to provide popularization references for tactile display technology.(3) Propose a tactile rendering method based on the target pixel for dynamic real-time video, HSI color model is used to map the amplitude and frequency of stimuli signal to render the real-time color video information.This paper researches on the electrostatic force tactile display mobile terminal from basic theory, hardware configuration, software driver, application function and other aspects, which lays a solid foundation for further research of haptic rendering technology.
