The Design And Implementation Of Accounting Module Based On Diameter Protocol

Since the network came into being, Authentication, Authorization and Accounting(AAA) have been the base of network operating. AAA working group of IETF affirmed Diameter Protocol to be the AAA standard protocol. As a fundamental part of the network, Diameter Protocol has been applied in the 3G and 4G LTE network. This paper makes a detailed illustration on the contents and application of Diameter Protocol. Based on a series experiments about the protocol’s communications process, this paper designed an accounting module. First of all, the paper illustrates the protocol in four aspect, namely whole structure, protocol format, peer-to-peer communications model, and protocol procedure. To study the communications process of Diameter Protocol, the paper applies Gx interface in LTE EPC to make experiments, using Wireshark(a kind of software which can catch the communications package) to catch protocol communications package. Then the paper analyses the AVP carried during protocol communications process, and extracts four accounting parameters, namely subscription information, usage information, service id,and charging rule name. With all the above, the paper makes out the basis accounting procedure and outline of the accounting module, and finished it using C++ based on Visual Studio. The functional testing is illustrated by words and screenshots. The paper is ended with a summary of the work that has been done and a prospect of Diameter Protocol.
