It is of the great importance of the military and civil values to measure state-formation of the inter-satellite. As an active metrical equipment, laser radar bears capacious foreground in the space-application. The research of high accuracy ranging technology is one of the important contents in laser radar (LADAR).First of all, this paper introduces the theory of traditional pulsed LADAR ranging, and analyzes the metrical error thoroughly. The technology of frequency-conversion ranging is brought forward with that foundation.Secondly, this paper introduces the theory of initiative and passive frequency-conversion ranging in detail, emphasis on the computed expressions and the theory analysis. Also, the restriction factors, which affect its application in engineering, are discussed.A laser ranging terminal is designed and achieved in the next place, which is based on the technology of frequency-conversion ranging, and some ideas are advanced for the restriction factors. Also, how to realize the technology of frequency-conversion ranging is designed in detail.Finally, the data analysis of laser radar, which is based on the technology of frequency-conversion ranging, is finished. The results show that the technology of frequency-conversion ranging is feasible and effective, and the request of high accuracy ranging is achieved.In the future, it is to stress the optimum design of the technology of frequency-conversion ranging, and it is to promote the application of the frequency-conversion ranging technique in pulsed laser radar.
