As the second-generation communication standard, DVB-S2 has been widely developed and applied by many satellite operators and service providers, since it was introduced by Joint Technical Committee (JTC) in 2004. DVB-S2/RCS applies to build wide-band satellite communication system, since the bandwidth utilization can be largely increased. Therefore, it is of great importance to carry out research on DVB-S2-based satellite communication system for the development of satellite communication field. The main contributions of this dissertation are listed as follows:1. DVB-S2/RCS technique. In this dissertation, we first give an overview of DVB-S2 and DVB-RCS, respectively, which include modulation modes, spectral band and channel codes, et al. It provides basic background for the overall design scheme.2. Design of the emergency satellite communication system.According to the requirements of wide-band emergency satellite communication system, we propose a novel scheme in terms of satellite parameters, system capacity, link budget, networking capability and service ability.3. Satellite communication gateway and small mobile emergency platform. The dissertation also analyzes the composition structure, technical indicates, network management and interface definition, and then the specific engineering approach is proposed.4. Analyses of system operation and performance test. We analyze the performance test results of the wideband emergency satellite communication system, which shows the effectiveness of the proposed scheme. Finally, suggestions for future improvement are discussed.
