With the increase in labor costs, labor-intensive industries are constantly introducingadvanced machines to improve their level of automation. Like other labor-intensive industries,watchcase manufacturing requires a lot of workers to complete different operations, includingdiamond inlaying. Therefor, it is very necessary and urgent to develop an automatic diamondinlaying machine to reduce the cost of production and the demand of workers.This thesis study and develop a control system, which can control diamond inlayingmachine. The emphasis of this thesis is the research and development of control systemsoftware. As we all know, the basic process of diamond inlaying includes locating diamondsand watchcase holes, picking up diamonds, moving diamonds, and then placing and settingthem in watchcase holes. According to these steps, It is obviously that vision positioning andmotion control are two core functions of control system software. Around the two corefunctions, this thesis introduces the design of easy expansion and maintenance of controlsystem software architecture; use of open CNC system software to achieve the underlyingmotion control; the research and realization of camera calibration algorithm, the imagecoordinates and world coordinates transformation algorithm and center identificationalgorithm.This paper put much emphasis on the study and the implementation of image processingalgorithms, including edge detection, mathematical morphology processing, templatematching algorithm and Hough-base circular transform algorithm. As the features betweendiamond image and watch case image are different, this thesis use the template matchingalgorithm to identify watch case holes and use the Hough-base circular transform algorithm toidentify diamond. In order to improve the algorithm execution efficiency, image pyramiddown sampling algorithm is used to optimize template matching algorithm, meanwhile,manual assistance is suggested to obtain diamond radius to reduce the computation ofHough-base circular transform algorithm. Finally, this thesis design a set of invalid diamondpositioning results filtering mechanism, which greatly improve the accuracy of positioning.
