The technology of optical signal amplification is used to amplify weak optical signals by controlling energy flow of the incident light in some way. Similar to an ordinary electrical negative feedback system, introduction of the negative feedback can bring forth many benefits in the optical system. For example, it makes the system stable and improves the system anti-interference capability and accuracy of the output optical signal largely. Optical signal amplification is one of the key technical issues to solve in the two-dimensional optical negative feedback system. With the optical signal amplification module, it is possible to achieve high-speed, parallel, large capacity and high-quality optical output the optical signal in the optical system. In this thesis, the principles and applications of two-dimensional optical signal amplification technology have been discussed and studied. Besides, selecting the suitable optical signal amplification method, choosing materials of optical signal amplification and analyzing the system requirements for optical signal amplification module were all finished so that the final experimental program which is suitable for the optical signal amplification module in this optical system has been designed. Finally, the impact of the various factors on the amplification gain of the two-dimensional optical signal is analyzed and how they affect the optical signal amplification by doing experiments is demonstrated. The main work of this thesis is shown in the following:① Analysis and comparison among the features of several existing common optical signal amplification technologies were made. And theses technologies which are usually applied to the system were studied. Based on the characteristics of optical system and the requirements of optical signal amplification module, the optimal optical signal amplification method that apply to this optical system has been chosen.② Based on the two-wave coupling of photo-refractive effect, the basic principles and the main ideas of the optical signal amplification technology have been studied. And comparisons among the performance of different photo-refractive materials were made. Ultimately, the working mechanism of the two-wave coupling effect and the photo-refractive materials which are suitable for this optical system have been selected.③ Combined with theoretical knowledge of the optical signal amplification and requirements of the optical signal amplification module, the experimental optical path has been designed and constructed. Through experiments, the effects of some factors on the amplification gain of the optical signal based on the two-wave coupling effect have been analyzed and demonstrated, such as the intensity of written pump light, the intensity of written signal light and the incident intensity ratio of the written light.The innovations are as follows:① Based on the characteristics of two-dimensional optical negative feedback system and the requirements of optical signal amplification module, the appropriate optical signal amplification method and photo-refractive materials which can realize optical signal amplification were selected. Besides, the experimental program for optical signal amplification module has been designed;② According to the two-wave coupling mathematical model, the impacts of each parameter on the amplification gain of optical signal have been analyzed. And experiments were carried out so that the verification is achieved.
