In film technology, film thickness plays an important role in property of film, which has closely related with electromagnetic properties, mechanical properties and optical properties, makes the film thickness detection attracted more and more attention. In the pharmaceutical industry, film coating technique has become an important link of the technology. In the process of continuous optimization, the requirements of film coating technology are also rising.3D reconstruction technology, which is a branch of computer vision, has become a hot problem of research in recent years. In the field of industrial automation production, it’s used for identify, installation and packaging components. In the field of medical image, it’s used for scanning lesion area to make the diagnosis exact. There are many new technologies drawn by 3D reconstruction technology, such as the 3D holographic projection technology, 3Dprinting technology, which make us more convenience. Now, we combine the film coating technology and computer vision technology, restructuring the two-dimensional images slice from tablet into a 3D model to know the shape of drug, which can lay the foundation for the automatic detection of the tablet, get the informations of drugs such as coating film thickness, geometric feature to judge whether the drugs are qualified or not, and then improve the production of efficiency.Taking the tablets with double convex as the research object, put the drugs into the red background. Using paraffin slicing machine cut the drug quickly in every 20μ m, get 400 2D slice images. and then using the image processing toolbox of MATLAB to preprocess the images of drugs, using the function of 3D reconstruction in MATLAB to restructure the drug, take out the coating film of each image, using Image pro plus to measure the thickness of film coating. Through the way of slicing the tablet, using the improved method based on volume rendering to reconstruction the model of tablet. Measure the thickness of film coating, and analyze the reasons of different thickness, to carry out more research in the field of film coating technology.Analysis the methods for measurement of film coating, such as microscope, terahertz spectroscopy, near infrared spectroscopy, Raman spectroscopy and other methods, considering the effect of measurement and the price of instrument and many other issues, we select the method of microscope. Through the study of film coating, it’s show that the direction and speed of slicing, the selection of blade, camera, light and background., structure of coating machine, process of coating and many other factors will have a certain impact on thickness of film coating.
