With the production of barrage video websites, the interactive form with high interactivity and entertainment on this sharing websites began to attract people’s attention. The comment barrage is not only applied in video, but also be used in movie, television and some online and offline activities. Because the development time of barrage technology and culture is not long, there are few prior studies directly focus on the human-computer interaction of barrage video and industry standard for guidance. Exploring the influencing factors and the associated cognitive law to improve the user experience of comment barrage is of important theoretical significance and practical significance. This paper brings the barrage into the human-computer interaction academic field to be studied to attract more researchers’ attention, provides recommendations for the barrage presentation specification through experimental analysis so as to improve the visual expression of barrage and the cognitive efficiency of target audiences, thereby optimize the overall interaction of barrage. In the human-computer interaction of barrage, the information presentation plays the important role and affect the user experience directly. Based on the related theories and research on human-computer interaction, this research elaborates the display factors and their influence. By using the method of experimental psychology, this paper designs the cognitive experiment to explore how the scrolling velocity and display density affect the cognitive efficiency and subject experience of comment barrage. The experiment manipulates two important factors, scrolling velocity and display density with 3(high velocity, medium velocity, low velocity) × 3(high density, medium density, low density) within subject design, explores the cognitive efficiency of barrage with different velocities and densities through the recognition task, and explores how they affect the user experience of barrage through the subjective evaluation. The experimental results show that, both the scrolling velocity and display density affect the cognitive efficiency and user experience of the barrage. The cognitive efficiency of the barrage with slow scrolling velocity is significantly higher than the barrage with medium velocity and fast velocity. The sensory experience of barrage with slow scrolling velocity and medium velocity is significantly better than the barrage with fast scrolling velocity. The cognitive efficiency of the barrage with low density is significantly higher than the barrage with medium density and high density. The sensory experience of the barrage with low density is also significantly better than the barrage with medium density and high density. The user preference of the barrage with different density from high to low is: low density, medium density, high density. Comprehensive evaluation of recognition task results, reaction time and user experience of barrage with different velocities and densities shows that, the barrage with fast velocity(200px/s) and low density(the number of the barrage on the same screen is 10) shows the optimal condition.
