China is rich in coal resources, but coal production accidents frequently happen, which brought to our serious economic losses and casualties. Existing coal mine safety monitoring system can not implement a comprehensive and flexible monitoring of underground production environment because of its limitations. Wireless sensor network(WSN) technology can effectively compensate for the lack of wired monitoring system. The coverage control technology is the primary problem in wireless sensor networks in the specific application. This paper mainly study the coverage control technology for wireless sensor network in coal mine. The main work as follows:(1) It researched the knowledge of WSN and coverage control. WSN is a new type of information acquisition and processing technology, with the characteristics of data-centric, self-organization, dynamic change, etc. Coverage control is mainly to study how to use of node deployment, power control and node scheduling, etc. to ensure the required network coverage and connectivity requirements, to maximum use of node resources and to extend the network life cycle. Therefore, the coverage, connectivity and energy conservation issues need to be addressed underground mine.(2) It analyzed the characteristics of wireless signal transmission underground mine. Using a rectangular waveguide mode method, it derived that electromagnetic waves mode attenuation decreases with the frequency in the underground tunnel; In addition, the electromagnetic wave attenuation is also affected by the other factors, for example, section size, tunnel rough wall, inclined tunnel walls, etc. the effective communication distance of electromagnetic waves in the underground tunnel was significantly limited. For example,2.4G wireless signal only can transmit about 220 meters when the transmission power is 0 dBm and the receiver sensitivity is-85 dBm in coal mine.(3) For the special environment underground mine, it proposed a kind of node deployment strategy based on the rectangular partition covering. In the case of deployment size and node sensing radius, the strategy can use less nodes reach two-heavy coverage. In addition, it verified the superiority of the algorithm on the OMNeT++ simulation platform with the numbers of nodes, hops, the network efficiency and lifecycle as indexes.(4) It proposed an energy-efficient wireless sensor network coverage control protocol, which use rectangular partition covering to ensure coverage, based on non-uniform deployment be arranged grouping node, according to the distance to the base station network can be divided into different groups, nearer the base station, the more deployment nodes. and then combined with the problem of redundant nodes sleep scheduling mechanism based on the detection of sleep to balancing network energy consumption and prolonging the network life cycle.
