A shipborne cylindrical phased a rray ante nna has high gain t o e nhance the radiation power of communicati on systems so as to over come t he transmis sion attenuat ion problems of e lectromagnetic signa ls effectively in the mari ne environment. Thi s antenna ca n still form stable omnidirectional beams in the horizontal pl ane at the same time of t he occurrence of ship swi ng motion with compensation to the init ial phase of the circuit feed.Combined with a r ray di gital signal processing te chnology, t his ant enna can not only form directional beams i n different directions which may scan around t he spac e,but al so form nulls in the be amforming pattern accurately and quickly ac cording to t he direction of interfe r ence so that t his antenna could improve t he SNR of t he rec eived signal.In this dissertation, some research works about the beamforming are carried out based on a shipborne cylindr ical phased array ant enna prototype. First of all, the oretical a nalysis and simulat ion modeling are made with the act ive radiation pattern of the element taken into the a r ray. Sec ondly, weight vector s are calcula ted to obtain the excitation amplit ude and phase da ta for each element in beamfor ming a lgorithm, and control the main beam direction and nul ls positions via digit al phase shifte r and digital attenuator. Finally, beamforming patterns of t he antenna pr ototype are measured in an anechoi c chamber, which shows that the be amforming performance of the antenna prototype basically meets t he designed targets required for the shi p which sets a good foundation for the antenna protot ype equipment.
