The beam of Phased Array Antenna(PAA) can scan quickly and flexibly, and PAA can realize multi –beam. PAA has great effect on the anti-jamming ability, etc. These features make the PAA widely used in the airborne, ship-borne, space-borne and other fields. For space-borne PAA, owning to the influence of sunshine, the surface of every array unit may cause physical distortion. Besides, array element affected by internal temperature and device aging, will lead to existing the amplitude and phase characteristic value errors between units. So we must monitor and correct the amplitude and phase characteristic value errors regularly or real-time.Coming from the calibration of amplitude and phase of PAA and surrounding the basic problem of online measuring the amplitude and phase characteristic value errors, This Paper has 3 key technical problems needing to debate.(1) The amplitude and phase characteristic value errors and their influence. About this problem, however, we still stay in stage of perceptual cognition. The lacking of quantitative analysis in math restricts to research on the online measuring the amplitude and phase characteristic value errors. Thereby, the first key technical problem of the paper is analyzing the mechanism of beam forming of PAA and studying the influence of amplitude and phase characteristic value errors to beam forming.(2) How to measure amplitude and phase characteristic value errors online? Because of the space environment, the ground measurement project of amplitude and phase characteristic value errors won’t be fit for the space case. The first what we should do is studying the measurement project suiting for the space, and then confirm the measurement method. Accordingly, the second key technical problem is how to measure the amplitude and phase characteristic value errors online.(3) How to carry out the measurement of amplitude and phase characteristic value errors? In order to take the measurement of amplitude and phase characteristic value errors into practice, the third key technical problem is how to carry out the measurement of amplitude and phase characteristic value errors.In order to solve the first key technical problem, this paper analyzes the beam forming of PAA, and studies the source of amplitude and phase errors, and discusses the influence of the errors. In order to solve the second key technical problem, this paper proposes to use online self-testing unit measure the amplitude and phase characteristic value errors, and studies the high precision method of amplitude and phase. In order to solve the third key technical problem, this paper designs the online self-testing unit and does the experiments to validate the unit.Restricting to the condition of laboratory, we only do the simple experiments, which indicate this method is feasible and effective.
