Due to the rapid expension and the fierce market competition of liquid crystal display(LCD), all the LCD panel makers have entered a meager profit era and are facing with severe challenges. Therefore, they are focused on new technology development, production quality improvement and yield improvement to improve the core competitiveness. Meanwhile, comsumers who enjoy the more excellent living standard require higher performance of the display such as panel resolution, color saturation, response time and contrast ratio. In order to meet such strict requirements, all the LCD panel companies need to improve the process control level which can help them to obtain higher quality and higher yield.The object of this paper is the control method of cell gap process. This paper firstly introduces the principle of liquid crystal display and the production process. Also the paper introduces the material of Liquid Crystal, Color Filter and Photo Spacer which were related with cell gap. Secondly this paper shows the definition of cell gap and established a simple model to study the control method of cell gap process. A formula between cell gap and Liquid Crystal density, Photo spacer height and density, temperature, atmospheric pressure was concluded and verified with the experiment data. Thirdly the paper studied the effect of environment change on the cell gap and give the suggestion to improve process. Lastly, the paper studied the impact of cell gap on display performance, such as transmittance, response time, contrast ratio and view angle.In this paper, the mainly achievement is summarized a formula about cell gap. To use this formula, we can get the correct cell gap efficiently just in design period but no need to make a sample, which can shorten production verification cycle and save production cost.
