Decades of rapid development of electrical design software has brought great convenience for electrical engineers’ design work. The electrical design software not only effectively improves the precision and accuracy of design, but also greatly shortens the drawing time. However, although the electrical design software has developed to the third generation of the software(CBE), the current software still has a lot of space for improvement with the development of electrical design industry itself and the constantly requirements for software function. The research goal here is to optimize the existing electrical design software function module from the perspective of being an electrical engineer, making it more in line with the electrical engineers’ daily design habits and process.Firstly, to analyze and research based on the following two aspects. One aspect is the analysis of demands for the electrical design at different stages. The other aspect is the contrast and analysis of the functional modules in the commonly used electrical design software TElec, EES and AutoCAD MEP2011. Summarize the advantages and disadvantages of currently electrical design software. Then, discuss the necessity and benefit of building the electrical knowledge base according to the result of analysis and research. Establish the electrical knowledge base framework and determine the representation of knowledge according to the data feature in concept design stage, preliminary design stage and construction design stage. This can make a more comprehensive record for the design principles and various technical parameters of entire project and allow the software functional modules to read data directly from the knowledge base more conveniently.Secondly, based on the established electrical knowledge base, readjust part of software framework from my point of view according to the electrical design software shortcomings in electrical distribution system design and the automatic generation of cable list. In this framework, in addition to the establishment of electrical knowledge base module, it also includes four major modules. That is automatic generation of electrical distribution module, automatic generation of cable list, thermal stability check for cross-sectional area of power cable and the verification for maximum cable length. Then, design specific process for these modules, discuss and research on how to implement the key par. In addition, elaborate the AutoCAD secondary development and graphic automatic generation & data interface and synchronization technology.Finally, test and apply the following function module: the automatic generation of cable list, thermal stability check for cross-sectional area of power cable and the verification for maximum cable length. After test and application, the optimized software really can help electrical engineer to improve their work efficiency.The achievement here is that the shortcomings of current electrical design software have been analyzed from the perspective of end user and the software has been optimized according to my usual work experience.
