Network simulation is to use a computer program to model network, the operation process of the program running imitate network, is a basic means in network research.In the study of stereoscopic video transmission technology, directly in the actual network implementation is often too expensive and it is not realistic.So, through the network simulator suitable for the simulation study is necessary, but also feasible, and the simulator is one of the best means of testing, evaluation and validation of alternative. Network simulation has characteristic, such as a cycle of small, low cost, and it can be repeated test also don’t have to worry about generating additional burden, but also research allows researchers to more easily borrow from others, and then on the basis of this is devoted to the study of their subject.Network simulation can predict the correctness and performance before the new network protocol, application, service deployment, control algorithm, is an effective way to support the network related technology research and development.The network simulation software currently used are NS-2, Opent, and NS-2 is a source code open and free software simulation platform that targeted at such a network technology, researchers can easily use the network technology to develop new network technology, and now, NS-2 contains richly modules, involving almost all aspects of network technology.We need using NS-2 to construct the network simulation topology suitable before doing transmission simulation research of stereo video stream, then to build simulation platform for stereoscopic video transmission based on topological structure.The performance of network simulation topology construction will directly affect the stereoscopic video transmission simulation effect, so the need for simulation test on the performance in the construction of network topology, such as testing the transmission delay, throughput, jitter performance parameters, so as to continuously adjust the topology structure, so is suitable for stereoscopic video transmission.At present, most of the simulation study for transmission, are not related to the stereo video, and the research of single channel video transmission simulation also do not consider the characteristics of the video itself, only separate transmission simulation of video data, the problems in the process of transmission delay are not to be done more in-depth study. The research in this paper of stereoscopic video transmission simulation technology, considering the characteristics of stereoscopic video, such as the importance of each frame in GOP are different, and for more in-depth study of these characteristics, effectively distinguish frame importance levels; then the congestion control strategy based on level of importance on, can effective data protection of higher importance, thus effectively improving the quality of stereo video decoding terminal.The main work of this paper are as follows:First, the paper introduced the working principle of the simulation network simulator NS-2, then constructed the NS-2 platform in Windows XP environment, and carried on the expansion of research, so as to realize the system of stereoscopic video transmission simulation;Second, the paper studied characteristics and differences between wired and wireless Simulation Research of NS-2, and NS-2 were used to construct 802.11 network simulation system topology and IP topology network simulation system respectively, then the paper performed the realization of video transmission simulation based on SVC;Third, in the environment of IP network, the paper researched on the realization of stereoscopic video transmission simulation based on video content, and put forward a network congestion control technology for stereoscopic video transmission.The results of simulation experiments proved that the stereo video frame importance of this proposed method to distinguish the importance of each frame quickly distinguish frame importance level in a GOP, and the strategy of network congestion control that based on this basis can effectively protect important data part, so as to improve the quality of decoded video.
