The arbitrary waveform generator(AWG)takes advantageof direct digital frequency synthesis technology(DDS) as the theoretical basis. It has the characteristics of DDS technology. It has the high level of output frequency stability, short switching time, high frequency resolution and the ability of being customized waveforms by the users. It has widely applied to the test system. At present,electronictechnology has reacheda very high level, it hashigherrequirementsfortesting,which makes thearbitrary waveform generator achievehigher performance. On the other hand,the arbitrary waveform generatoris able todirectly producea double exponentialwaveformis still relatively rare.For above reasons, I designed a 200MSa/s arbitrary waveform generator that can generate the double exponential waveformmy derectly. The main research contents are as follows:This paper firstly studies the background of DDS technology, and analyses the basic principles of DDS and its output characteristics in detail. Thenthis paper makes the research ofits performanceimprovement method. Afterwards I designthe hardware system of the arbitrary waveform generator, including the FPGA system with the series of Cyclone III FPGA as the development platform, anddigital to analog conversioncircuit and the correspondingfilter andamplifier circuitto filter theoutput signal of DACandamplification. Then studied of FPGA logicsystem, I have completed the design of the clock module, the phase accumulator, waveform memory, UART and the modulation module. Finally, based on MFC platform, I develop the system of PC applications. The application can produce the waveform data points by users’ setting, and it can also do the FFT on the waveform. Furthermore, the waveform’s information can be set like the waveform amplitude, frequency, phase and modulation mode.Finally these data will be transmitted to the hardware systemby the UART.The designed Arbitrary waveform generatorcan not only producesome of the commonly usedstandardwaveforms. Besides it can produce double exponential waveform,thewaveformcan be applied tothesimulation ofstandard lightningwaveform.And the users can draw any arbitrary waveformsmanually. Above all it has realized a variety ofanalog modulationfunction,and a variety ofbinary digitalmodulation. Finally, by setting the parameter of waveform, the control system hardware circuit generates a set waveform signal, it operate easily.Finally, the experimental results show that the arbitrary waveform generator is designed to achieve the sampling rate of 200 MHz, the frequency resolution is 1Hz, the vertical resolution is 12 bit, frequencyhas high precision, and it can achieve a variety of modulation and the various waveform generation, which have proved the feasibility of the design.
