This paper is a basic application research, and it is granted by National Natural Science Foundation "Study of A new type of flexible multifunctional array tactile sensor which can sense pressure and temperature simultaneously" (61072032) and "Study of artificial skin capable of whole-process sensing"(61471155).The research status and problems of material identification technology are introduced in this paper, also a capacitance-resistance compound material identification sensor is designed. The signals which reflect information of the dielectric constant and hardness of the target, are measured by a capacitive sensor and a resistive sensor, the material of the target object can be identified. In addition, the dielectric constant and hardness of the target object can be detected by capacitive sensor and resistive sensor which is proved through the theoretical model.Secondly, To optimize the structure of the capacitive sensor, the influence of electrode structure on capacitive sensor’s the detection depth and sensitivity are studied, the influence of electrode size and shielding distance on the capacitive sensor’s material recognition capacity are analyzed with COMSOL MULTIPHYSICS. To optimize the structure of the resistive sensor, the influence of the carbon black content, the sensor preparation, and the size of the electrode on the resistive sensor’s material recognition capacity are researched in the experiment. Thus the capacitance-resistance compound material identification sensor can be designed according to the optimization results.Finally, the database of the material identification is set up, and the material identification experiments of the capacitive sensor, resistive sensor and the capacitance-resistance compound sensor are carried out, and the experiment results are compared. It shows that the capacitance-resistance compound material identification sensor overcomes the limited identification capacity of capacitive sensor and resistive sensor, and can identify material information of the target object effectively.
