China’s supermarket started at about early 90’s of the 20 th Century, in the past 20 years of rapid development, now it’s very popular for commodity retail. Now, most of the large supermarkets have setup information network by self-development or by purchasing. It covers entire retail process, including procurement, warehousing, storage construction to the retail. The information network does not only improve the efficiency and accuracy of the entire process, but also greatly reduced the overall cost. On the other side, the information construction of small supermarket is very slow, this is not only because of the understanding of the information construction, but also the limited funding, staff trainings and the sustaining cost.Although small supermarket’s owners are starting to understand of the importance of information construction, the information management system for small-medium supermarket is rare. Actually the small-medium supermarket form a vicious spiral--large supermarkets will continue to expand because of their advanced information system, small supermarket’s market share and profit level will continue to decline.I studied the system development background and the realities, as well as the true demands from the small supermarkets. Then I studied several popular software solutions and made the final selection of the technology solution. The system uses popular Browser/Server structure, free MySQL database and TOMCAT as the application server. These choices largely reduce the cost for development and maintain. System main components include:1. Retail Terminals. Sales, Return, VIP customer submission, VIP points usage.2. Supplier Management System. Purchase and return, supplier management, stock management, stock exchange, goods management.3. Management System. VIP purchase history analysis, shop management, business report for the sales and purchase, stock alarm system.4. Access Management. Stuff management and department management system.
