With the constant rise of the Internet of Things, as the representative of the IOT, Wireless Sensor Networks is developing quickly. In order to express the concept of IOT better, people put forward wireless sensor nodes connected to the Internet network, so wireless embedded network arises at the historic moment. However we want to make every electronic device connected to the network, so a large number of electronic devices to access the Internet or wireless sensor node needs a lot of IP address which offer the guarantee on the address space. Because of a shortage of IPv4 address, the IP addresses can be used are scarce. IPv4 can’t meet the needs of the full realization of Internet of things. Therefore, replacing IPv4, IPv6 technology is the inevitable developing trend of the Internet and Internet of things. Based on the above mentioned environment and corresponding technical background, the 6LoWPAN technology which combines Wireless Sensor Network and IPv6 arises at the historic moment. But there are still many problems that we should face about the 6LoWPAN-based WSN, in which the energy problem is a very important problem to be solved urgently. This dissertation summarizes the energy control technology based on the traditional ZigBee network, fully researches and analysis the RPL routing protocol principle which is adopted by 6LoWPAN-based WSN. This dissertation analyses the format of the RPL control message and the contained network information and researches the mechanism used by node to select route and build the DODAG network. In terms of the demerits of the existing RPL routing protocol in the energy consumption control, RPL can be improved from two aspects. On one hand, this dissertation researches the Rank algorithm, Object Function and Metric which are used to build DODAG, then proposes an improved and energy-efficient metric ENE. On the other hand, this dissertation also focuses on the Trickle algorithm and improves it, which is RPL control message algorithm. The improved Trickle has many advantages. Finally the dissertation builds a system and uses simulation to estimate the performance of the improved RPL in the energy consumption control.
