Security issues in wireless sensor networks have been valued with the wide application of the network. Wireless sensor networks have a very good application value in many areas, including environmental monitoring, national defense, health care, home care, etc, and these applications are based on secure and reliable data transmission. So the safety study of wireless sensor networks is crucial, and efficient key management scheme is the safety protection. The characteristics of wireless sensor networks result that the traditional key management scheme can not be applied directly in wireless sensor networks, such as limited resources(small storage space, low computing power, weak communications capability), large-scale network, the dynamic changes in the structure, the environment not easy to control, etc. How to find the best balance between resource consumption and security to achieve the optimal performance of wireless sensor networks is becoming the focus of research at home and abroad. Combined with engineering practice, the works of this paper mainly deploy from the following aspects:Firstly, the paper describes the background and significance of the subject, and the structure, characteristics and applicant of wireless sensor networks. The security of wireless sensor networks is summarized, including security threats, security requirements, security research focus.Secondly, the paper makes a detailed discussion in the key management scheme for wireless sensor networks, including the classification, evaluation criteria and their representatives classic schemes.Furthermore, considering the head node been captured produces a serious security threat to others in some key schemes, we propose an efficient key pre-distribution management scheme LPKPM. The LPKPM pre-distribute keys to cluster head nodes by using LU matrix that bases on symmetric polynomial, then the safety threshold of cluster head nodes is improved. Theoretical analysis and simulation results show that this scheme compared to other schemes not only has better connectivity and security, but also reduces storage consumption. Finally, the paper analyses the group key management schemes in that many applications of wireless sensor networks are based on group communication patterns. Because of GKD scheme exists isolated nodes, storage overhead and communication overhead are relatively big, we propose a new clustered group key management scheme NGKD. The NGKD differs from the traditional schemes that the head nodes use level key to encrypt the group key and then redistribute it, but decrypt the group key by a encryption key that comes from the head node through broadcasting. Experimental results show that the NGKD scheme compared with original GKD and B-PCGR scheme not only solutes collusion attack and isolated nodes, but also reduces the storage overhead and communication overhead.
