Augmented reality is a new research field which is on the basis of virtual realitybut different from the virtual reality. The user can interact with virtual objects through specific device in the scene, or even provide auditory, tactile and olfactory experience for users. It is widely used in national defense and military, industrial maintenance, medical treatment, monuments restoration, games and entertainment, tourism, construction, electronic commerce and so on.Augmented reality system which is based on ARToolKit development kit.Since the image segmentation threshold is fixed,when the scene changes greatly,it cannot achieve augmented reality; In order to solve this problem,we put forward the calculation of the image threshold for real-time image in the video sequence with the minimum error method,when the scene changes,the threshold will change accordingly.In the augmented reality system we do some augmented reality experimental research on marker rotating case.The result shows that the method can still achieve augmented reality when the scene changes a lot,which proves the validity and real-time of the method.Thus,it can improve the overall performance of ARToolKit enhanced reality system.To solve the problem that when vertex is obscured, ARToolKit cannot achieve augmented reality, this article introduced ARToolKit algorithm of coordinate transformation,in relations with the registration method that is based on homography and presented a new three-cornersmethod combined with the image matching value calculation and it is validated by experiment. The improved algorithm allows that any corner of the marker can be blocked and solves the problem that when the marker is occluded it cannot achieve augmented reality.
