Through the process of general Augmented Reality (AR) application developm-ent based on ARToolKit, most of developers use OpenGL directly to create an-d render3D models. This means that developers have to write many codes an-d they need to pay attention at the detail of the render process. Also, when t-he developers want to change markers or virtual3D models, they have to co-mpile, link and rebuild the entire program. It’s complex and time waisting. Virtools is a mature commercial3D game engine, it has been used in many f-eilds. Frist, users can import a lot of3D models which are in line with inter-national graphic standards to Virtools. Second, Virtools contain a render engine so that it’s easy to render the imported3D models. Third, Virtools has a set of Behavior Building Block including Video Player and Video Capture Building Block. Virtools SDK supports user creating Building Block themselves. These user-defined Building Blocks also can interact and cooperate with the Building Blocks originally contained in Virtools. Also, developers can change the input parameters when the program is still running in Virtools. Because of that, I created a Virtools AR Plugin called Z_ARToolKit which is based on ARToolKit. It contains five Building Blocks in it. Through Z_ARToo-1-Kit I combined Virtools and ARToolKit in order to find a simpler solution f-or those who are not want to concern on creating and rendering3D models or writing codes. On the other hands, I also extend the function of Virtools so t-hat it supports AR technology now.The main content of my work and new point are:1. Design and implement a Virtools AR plugin called Z_ARToolKit based on ARToolKit.2. Give a solution for creating AR application without coding based on Z ARToolKit and Virtools. 3. Give a plan for testing the tracking accuracy of the target in AR applic-ation which is developed in Virtools and based on Z_ARToolKit.
