Augmented Reality is such a technique which overlay virtual objects to real-world image technology, referred to as AR.AR can implement the interaction between man and virtual objects. The virtual objects can be text,images,3D models or videos,and so on.ARToolKit is a development kit of augmented reality system which is based on C language.ARToolKit is one of tools which are using to implement augmented reality technology,also is a research focus currently,we can develop augmented reality system easily with it. ARToolKit uses computer vision technology,and can calculate the user point of view real-time accurately to overlay the virtual objects to real world image accurately.In addition, ARToolKit algorithm is easy to transplant, especially in the mobile device.The paper analyzes the algorithm process of ARToolKit,and design and implement the desktop human-computer interaction system which overlays dinosaur video to the real world.In addition,the paper researches the bitmap image matching algorithms and mathematical models in the detection and identification.Firstly,the paper introduces the basic concepts and the main research of AR,and analyzed the algorithm process of ARToolKit,and summarize the other transplantation versions and related platforms technology which are based on ARTooKit algorithm.Secondly, the paper researches the method of bitmap image matching calculation in detection and identification of tag,and analyzes the other methods of image matching,and select the appropriate calculation method which is used to improve the accuracy of matching results through comparing with several image matching methodFinally, the paper researchesthe application future prospects of augmented reality in the dinosaur museum, and designed a dinosaur museum augmented reality system based on the rectangular markers of dinosaur pattern with FLARToolKit.
