In order to obtain real-time visitor traffic statistics in popular scenic spots or parks, and avoid jams along key road sections and at important junctures, there arises the need to acquire information about traffic flows and visitor volume. Instructions can be given to drivers and visitors alike to get in during non-rush hours. The present thesis, proceeding from the real-time Flex visualization technology, conducts real-time monitoring of tourist attractions and provides instructive information to visitors about the best time to travel and the optimal route. This can greatly reduce waste of time on the road and is of significant benefit to the society as a whole. On the basis of Flex platform, the present research follows a “propose-analyzeinvestigate-verify” cycle, and examines issues involved in real-time data visualization of information about large park visitors. The Flex platform is applied to find the algorithm for shortest path, abstract Expo Park venues, entrance, roads, traffic flows as Flex classes, and add rich interaction functionalities with the help of AS. The research, making full use of limited screen space and hardware computing power, and giving due attention to human cognitive features, presents naturally and efficiently the information to users. The visual results help users learn daily visitor volume in the Expo Park, and understand passenger flow variations under special circumstances through the interaction functions. This can also be relied on to improve the traffic environment and road conditions in the park. With the information visualization conducted in the Expo Park, the thesis explores Flex platform-based information visualization technology. In the actual implementation of the research project, visitors are provided with real-time information about visitor volume and distribution. The platform also benefits the organizing committee and administrative authorities in regulating the rush-hour and non-rush hour visitor flows and helps avoid trampling and stampede. It is a successful instance of research in data visualization, which can prove valuable for further exploration in this field.
